Dehradun: Two days after gangster Amit Kumar alias Bhura escaped from Uttarakhand police’s custody, prison authorities including minister Preetam Pawar are yet to take serious note of the issue. This comes even after chief minister Harish Rawat severely criticized law enforcing bodies and Dehradun Jail authorities for the lapses on their part.
While disciplinary measures were taken even against senior police officers like Dehradun SSP Ajay Rautela, besides suspension of seven other policemen, no action has been taken against any official of the Dehradun prison.
Pawar along with IG (prison) Vinod Sharma continue to remain tightlipped as to how the notorious criminal managed to escape from judicial custody. The incident has portrayed poorly on the law enforcement agencies in the state and has even fuelled rumours of a possible gang war in days to come.
While minister Pawar and IG Sharma remained unavailable for comments, CM Rawat said the government will definitely undertake a detailed probe into the circumstances under which Bhura was being transported to a court in Baghpat from the Dehradun Jail for a hearing. “We will suitably punish jail officials if their involvement in the crime is ascertained”, said Rawat.
